Eric Allen Boe (born October 1, 1964 in Miami , Florida ) is an American astronaut .

education

Boe graduated from Henderson High School in 1983 and began studying at the US Air Force Academy . This awarded him a bachelor's degree in space technology in 1987 . In 1997, he graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology with a Masters of Science degree in electrical engineering .

Astronaut activity

He was selected as an astronaut by NASA in July 2000 and joined the Johnson Space Center in August 2000 . In the following two years of training and education, he achieved the qualifications to pilot spacecraft and station work.

STS-126

On November 15, 2008, Boe started his first space flight as a pilot of the space shuttle Endeavor .

STS-133

On September 18, 2009, Boe was nominated as a pilot for the STS-133 mission to the ISS. The take-off took place on February 24, 2011, the landing on March 9. Boe was the last pilot of the space shuttle Discovery .

Commercial spaceships

In 2015, NASA introduced Boe as one of four test pilots for future commercial spacecraft. Together with Robert L. Behnken , Douglas G. Hurley and Sunita Williams , he should familiarize himself with the spacecraft CST-100 from Boeing and Dragon V2 from SpaceX. In August 2018, Boe was nominated as a crew member for the first manned flight of the CST-100. In January 2019, NASA announced that Boe was unable to fly for health reasons and would be replaced by Michael Fincke .

Private

Boe grew up in Atlanta , Georgia . He is married and has two children.
