Eric Berg (born November 21, 1945 in Pottstown , Pennsylvania , † April 20, 2020 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania) was an American sculptor who mainly depicted animals.

Life and works

Eric Berg graduated from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania . However, his economics studies interested him less than the stone sculptures that he had already created during this time, which is why he completed an artistic training at the University of Pennsylvania, which he graduated with a Master of Fine Arts in 1974 . He received his first public commission from the Philadelphia Zoo : the statue of an African warthog. He has created numerous plastic works for zoos, parks, museums, and universities in the United States. From 1990 he was a member of the Society of Animal Artists and the American Association of Zoological Parks and Aquariums. From Berg z. B. the Pig Centennial , which was erected for the centenary of State College . The bronze Gardener's Cottage Gates have adorned Rittenhouse Square and Walnut Street in Philadelphia since 2010 . His works also include the statue of the gorilla Massa in the Philadelphia Zoo, the dragon Mario in the Drexel University compound, and the pig Philbert in the Reading Terminal Market .
