Eric Cooper

Eric Cooper (born August 22,  1967 in California ) is a retired American basketball player .

career

The Los Angeles native  Cooper, a 1.93 meter measuring, on the position two players, was from 1985 to 1987 member of the college team of the University of Arizona , but remained a supplementary player. This changed at the University of Texas at San Antonio , for whose team Cooper played from 1987 to 1989. In particular in the 1988/89 game year he posted good values ​​when he scored 18.7 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.4 assists per encounter. He studied psychology .

In the summer of 1991 he played with a national team during a tour of the Scandinavian countries , the Netherlands , Yugoslavia and North Africa . In the 1991/92 season Cooper was initially under contract with the Basketball Stars Weert team in the Netherlands and scored an average of 21 points in three missions. In December 1991 he moved to SC Rist Wedel in the 2nd Bundesliga , but rose with the team in the spring of 1992 from the second highest German division.

In 1992/93 Cooper played at Olimpija Ljubljana , with the team he also competed in the European Cup. For the 1993/94 season he moved to Steiner Bayreuth in the basketball league , later the collaboration ended due to a knee injury Cooper, he was replaced in Bayreuth by his compatriot Steven Key . In the game year 1994/95 he was under contract with M7 Borås in Sweden's first division . During his professional career, he also played for teams in Ukraine  and Mexico at times .

Following his playing career, Cooper became a coach. In the 2001 and 2002 WNBA seasons he was assistant coach to Phoenix Mercury , in the same two years he was assistant coach of Southern California Surf in the ABA outside the WNBA season and worked in that position as assistant to Scott Brooks . In 2004, Cooper worked as the head coach and athletic director of the Ontario Warriors (also ABA) until mid-November of that year. In 2005, Cooper coached a team as a coach in the youth game operation AAU, which was financed by Baron Davis and with which he won the US championship in the U12 age group. Between 2007 and 2012 he worked as the head coach of Lutheran High School in La Verne , California , in 2010 and 2011 the team won a regional championship title under his direction, a total of 132 wins and 30 losses during Cooper's tenure. Among his protégés at Lutheran High School was the future professional Grant Jerrett (including Oklahoma City Thunder  and Ratiopharm Ulm ). From 2012 to 2014, Cooper was the trainer at St. Anthony High School in Long Beach . He was a coach at Diamond Ranch High School (also California) from 2014 to 2017, and in August 2019 Cooper became a coach at Chino High School in the same US state. In addition to his activities as a trainer in the school sector, he founded the Pomona- based “Cooper International Academy”, with which he prepares players for the requirements of the university level.

His son, also named Eric, was under contract with German second division Bayer Leverkusen for parts of the 2019/20 season , and his daughter Ebony also became a basketball player.
