Eric Markuse

Eric Markuse (* 1962 in Leer in East Friesland , lives in Berlin ) is a German journalist. As the former program manager of MDR Sputnik from Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk , he played a key role in its expansion into a youth culture radio .

Life

Markuse began his journalistic career after studying political science , German and art history in 1986, as a trainee at Eckernförder Zeitung . He later became an editor there. After two years of work as press spokesman for Ostseebad Damp GmbH, he switched to Kieler Nachrichten in 1991 and worked there in various departments. In the 1990s he worked for a short time at Bild München and as a chief reporter at Münchner tz . In 1999 he switched to Hamburger Morgenpost as deputy editor-in-chief.

Since 2001, Markuse has worked for the Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk. There he was initially head of the communications department as company spokesman and later also head of the new media department in Leipzig. Since June 2006 he has been program manager at MDR Sputnik, replacing Michael Schiewack , who up to that point was responsible for the youth-oriented MDR pop wave Jump and at the same time for Sputnik. After a repositioning of MDR Sputnik to a mass-oriented program in the summer of 2010, initiated by the MDR radio directorate, he moved to Axel Springer AG at the beginning of 2011 as coordinator for the BILD regional editions .

Work as program director

Markuse achieved a higher level of awareness through his significant work on the expansion of MDR Sputnik into a youth culture radio. One of his first tasks as program director was turning away from the format radio concept , which Sputnik pursued until November 2006. He restructured the music color and program content and, among other things, introduced bilingual news that were firmly integrated into the afternoon program.
