Erich Carl Mayer (born July 19, 1878 in Mannheim as Erich Karl Sigmund Mayer ; † April 18, 1942 ibid) was a German cigar manufacturer.

family

Erich Carl Mayer came from an old Jewish family in Mannheim. His father was the commercial advisor and cigar manufacturer Emil Mayer . His great-great-grandfather was the founder of the cigar factory Gebrüder Mayer AG in Mannheim Gottschalk Mayer . His father was the court factor Elias Mayer , his grandfather the court factor Elias Hayum .

A brother of Erich Carl Mayer was the criminal lawyer and legal philosopher Max Ernst Mayer .

Life

Erich Carl Mayer graduated from the humanistic grammar school in Mannheim in 1896. He went to the Hessian Ludwig University to study economics . In 1897 he became active in the Corps Starkenburgia . As an inactive , he moved to the Kaiser Wilhelms-Universität in Strasbourg , which made him Dr. rer. pole. PhD. He then received practical training at the main tobacco markets in Bremen, Hamburg and Amsterdam. From 1901 to 1902 he gained further professional experience in American tobacco factories. After returning from America, he joined his father's company, the cigar factories Gebrüder Mayer AG , of which he became director, partner and board member.

Mayer was a member of the supervisory board of Badische Assecuranz-Gesellschaft AG in Mannheim, H. Schlinck & Cie. AG in Hamburg, the Badisch-Palatinate Committee of Deutsche Bank and Disconto-Gesellschaft , Schiffahrts-Assecuranz-Gesellschaft AG in Mannheim and Hamburg-Mannheimer-Versicherungs-AG in Hamburg.

He was a commercial judge and a member of the specialist committee for the tobacco industry at the Mannheim Chamber of Commerce and Industry . Most recently he lived in Berlin.
