Erich Franke (politician)

Erich Franke (born September 6, 1908 in Koblenz ; † April 23, 1986 there ) was a German politician ( CDU ) and homeland researcher .

Life

Erich Franke passed his Abitur at the Kaiser Wilhelm Realgymnasium in Koblenz and then studied philosophy, German and English in Munich , Vienna , Berlin , Bonn and London . In 1934 he received his doctorate in philosophy in Bonn. In 1937 he married Margarete Emma Maret. His aspired scientific career, which he began with the translation of world history by Arnold J. Toynbee , ended just two years later with the Second World War and his conscription to the military. After the end of the war, he took over the company inherited from his in-laws and thus worked as a businessman.

From 1956 Franke was a member of the Koblenz city council for the CDU, where he was active in various committees. From 1972 to 1979 he was also group chairman. In addition, Franke was a member of the general assembly of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce and the advisory board of the Administration and Business Academy in Koblenz .

Franke received numerous awards for his involvement in local research, monument preservation and local politics, such as the Federal Cross of Merit in 1968, the coat of arms of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate in 1973 and the Freiherr vom Stein plaque a year later . On July 11, 1981, Mayor Willi Hört awarded him honorary citizenship of the city of Koblenz.

Erich Franke died on April 23, 1986. He was buried in the main cemetery in Koblenz .

Act

Erich Franke was active in the home history of his hometown Koblenz. He was also an ardent supporter of the rebuilding of the historic old town . B. the jury and department store on Florinsmarkt, the Metternicher Hof on Münzplatz, the old castle on the banks of the Moselle and the baroque portal in the Weißer Gasse . His tireless commitment to cultural and local history issues made him the city-historical conscience in the Koblenz city council and a role model for many of his council colleagues.
