Erich Krenkel

Erich Krenkel (born December 4, 1880 in Reichenau ; † 1964 ) was a German geologist and professor at the University of Leipzig .

Krenkel studied law and geology . In 1905 the doctorate to Dr. jur. at the University of Leipzig on Police Ordinance Law in Saxony . In 1909 the doctorate to Dr. phil. in geology / palaeontology at the University of Munich on The Lower Cretaceous of German East Africa . In 1912 he completed his habilitation in geology and paleontology at the University of Leipzig with the thesis: The Kelloway fauna of Popilani in Lithuania . From 1912 to 1918 he was a private lecturer in geology and paleontology at the University of Leipzig, from 1918 to 1926 non-scheduled extraordinary professor for geology and paleontology and from 1926 to 1945 planned extraordinary professor for applied geology . In August 1912 he was one of the 34 founding members of the Paleontological Society . From 1914 to 1917 he took part in the First World War in German East Africa , where he helped build the mint in Tabora . In 1917 he was taken prisoner of war and interned in Switzerland. In November 1933 he signed the professors' declaration of Adolf Hitler at German universities and colleges .

In 1945 the US Army evacuated Krenkel to Weilburg / Lahn, whereupon he continued teaching privately in Ahausen (Weilburg) .
