Erich Reimer (politician)

Erich Reimer (born February 17, 1902 in Berlin , † January 15, 1976 in Potsdam ) was a German resistance fighter and journalist .

Life

Reimer, the son of a working-class family, learned the trade of tailor and went on a hike. Organized in a union since his apprenticeship, he joined the KPD in 1926. He headed the workers library in Berlin-Friedrichshain and was a member of the management of the League of Proletarian Revolutionary Writers from 1932 . After the " seizure of power " by the National Socialists in 1933, Reimer was active in the communist resistance against the Nazi regime . Among other things, he participated in the production and distribution of illegal scripts.

After 1945 he promoted the unification of the KPD and SPD to form the SED and the implementation of the land reform in Brandenburg . He was the responsible cultural editor and from 1949 to 1951 deputy editor-in-chief of the Märkische Volksstimme in Potsdam . 1951/1952 he acted as secretary of the Association of the German Press . 1952/1953 he was editor of the Free Farmers in Berlin. Afterwards he worked for the SED district leadership in Potsdam for over a decade .
