Erich Traugott

Erich Traugott (born May 18, 1928 in Poland; † June 26, 2016 ) was a Canadian jazz- oriented trumpeter who was active in the Toronto music scene .

Live and act

Traugott came to Canada with his parents in infancy; as a child he learned both piano and trumpet. A scholarship enabled him to study at the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore; then he played in the local symphony orchestra before returning to Toronto in 1952. In the following years he worked as a studio musician for numerous television and radio shows for the broadcaster CBC , film soundtracks, stage productions and concerts. In the field of jazz he worked in the mid-1950s in the big band Nimmons 'n' Nine (the earliest band of Phil Nimmons ) and from 1988 as lead trumpeter in Rob McConnell's The Boss Brass , in which he a. a. also accompanied the vocal ensembles The Hi-Lo’s and The Singers Unlimited . In the field of jazz he was involved in 60 recording sessions between 1956 and 1986, apart from the aforementioned bands with Bert Niosi, Bob McMullin, Ron Collier , Duke Ellington (1967), Jimmy Dale, Gene Lees ( Gene Lees Sing the Gene Lees Songbook ), Guido Basso , Ed Bickert , Peter Appleyard and Sammy Nestico .
