Erich Wöllner (born March 16, 1931 in Kirchhasel , Schwarza district ) is a former major general of the border troops of the GDR .

Life

The son of a carpenter learned the trade of a shoemaker from 1945 to 1949. He initially worked as a transport worker and in August 1949 became a member of the German People's Police . He attended the VP School in Döbeln and served as an officer in the Barracked People's Police from 1952. In 1953 he became a member of the SED . From 1955 to 1959 he attended the Frunze Military Academy in the Soviet Union and was then appointed deputy and then chief of staff of a motorized rifle regiment. From 1962 to 1965 he was in command of the Mot.Schützen-Regiment 16 " Robert Uhrig " in Bad Frankenhausen . After attending the General Staff Academy of the USSR from 1965 to 1967, he was 1st Deputy Commander until 1971, then Chief of Staff of the 4th Motorized Rifle Division until 1973. From 1973 to 1979 he was commander of the NCO's " Paul Fröhlich " school of the NVA in Zwickau . On March 1, 1976, he was appointed major general.

Erich Wöllner was in command of the Central Border Command from 1979 to 1990, where nearly 12,000 soldiers were subordinate to him.
