Erich Wessner (born March 14, 1948 in Hollabrunn ; † June 6, 2016 ) was an Austrian opera singer ( tenor ).

Career

The trained compulsory school teacher for German and music education studied singing privately and completed various choral conducting courses . During his studies he became a member of the Catholic student associations Arminia Hollabrunn (1962) and Austria Krems (1967) both in the MKV . In 1981 he was engaged as a member of the Vienna State Opera Choir, and in 1991 he also received a solo contract. Until his retirement (2008) he was a member of the State Opera Choir.

Wessner worked with many important conductors and directors of his time and took part - also as a soloist - at the Bregenz Festival and the Salzburg Easter and Summer Festival . His special love was the Wienerlied . The lively international concert activity in this genre has also taken him to Israel and Japan .

Until June 2016, Wessner was an active member of the Concert Association of the Vienna State Opera Choir and the Singing Association of the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde in Vienna and in his hometown Hollabrunn.
