Erich von den Driesch, who was born in Herzogenrath near Aachen, first became a businessman and then trained as a sculptor with one of the brothers Bernhard and Joseph Küppers in Aachen.

In 1906 an exhibition of the works of the Drieschs took place in the Suermondt Museum in Aachen . At the end of 1914, he created a tomb for the family crypt of the physician Ferdinand Joseph Laaf in the Burtscheid hot mountain cemetery , which included a group of figures made of electroplating , which he based on one of his earlier works in the art institute of the Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik (WMF) in Geislingen an der Steige made. Another work in this cemetery is a “seated female figure” in marble as part of a three-part grave complex belonging to the Neuss family .

In addition, he created a bronze medallion for the tombstone of his father Carl von den Driesch in the Poppelsdorfer Friedhof in Bonn , who was a councilor and holder of the Order of the Red Eagle . The life data on the tombstone can no longer be deciphered without aids.

With the bronze sculptures foundry workers and steel workers he created early examples of worker sculptures , motifs that were politicized later in the 20th century.

Erich von den Driesch had set up his studio in 1915 in the Ottostraße 88/90 in Aachen, which now houses various artist studios. The sculptor's apartment was at Louisenstrasse 52 - at the corner of Pastorplatz.
