Erik Börjesson

Erik Oskar "Börje" Börjesson (born December 1, 1888 in Jonsered , Partille municipality , † July 17, 1983 in Partille , Västra Götalands län ) was a Swedish football player .

career

Börjesson played at Jonsereds GIF in his hometown at the beginning of his career . In 1907 the striker joined IFK Göteborg , where he was the standout player. From 1910 to 1912 he played for Örgryte IS , Sweden's most important team at the time. Then he returned to IFK Gothenburg. In 1914, after a friendly match, he received an offer from Liverpool FC to move to England as a professional player, which Börjesson refused. In 1920 he announced his resignation, but tried in 1923 as a player-coach a comeback at Örgryte IS. In 1925 he finally ended his career, during which he won three Swedish championship titles.

On July 12, 1908 Börjesson belonged to the squad of the Swedish national team in their first international match. Norway was beaten 11: 3. With the country selection, he took part in the 1912 Olympic Games in Stockholm. He played a total of 17 international matches for Sweden, scoring twelve goals.

In 2004 Börjesson was inducted into the SFS Hall Of Fame . His son Reino Börjesson also played in the national team.
