Reino Börjesson

Reino Börjesson (born February 4, 1929 ) is a former Swedish football player . The midfielder , who took part in the 1958 World Cup as a second division player for the Swedish national team and was runner-up, is the son of Erik Börjessons , who took part in the first international match of the Swedish national team in 1908.

Career

Börjesson started playing football at Jonsereds IF . He then went to IFK Göteborg . By performing well in the Allsvenskan , he played his way into the Swedish national team. In the 1: 3 defeat against the Danish national team on October 21, 1951, he made his debut in the national jersey.

1953 Börjesson moved to Norrby IF in the second class Division 1 . With the club from Borås , he made it to the Allsvenskan in 1955. He played his way back to the national team through good performances and stayed in the extended national team even after relegation. In October 1957 he came in a 5-2 win over the Norwegian national team for his second international game. As a result, he was able to hold on to the national team and was appointed to the squad for the 1958 World Cup.

At the World Cup tournament, Börjesson was initially only on the bench. After the team had qualified early for the quarter-finals after the first two group games, he was used in the final group game against Wales . There he was able to take his opponent John Charles out of the game and attract attention himself offensively. As a result, he fought for a regular place for the following games. After the German team had been defeated in the semi-final game known for their hard work , he and the team reached the final against Brazil . In the final he was next to Gunnar Gren , Orvar Bergmark and Agne Simonsson as one of four second division players on the field. In the 2-3-5 system , in which he occupied the post in right midfield, the Northern Europeans were technically and tactically inferior to the Brazilian selection. With a 2: 5 defeat, Börjesson and his team became vice world champions.

In the first international game after the World Cup, Börjesson scored two goals in a 7-1 win over the Finnish national team . He stayed in the national team until the end of the year, before ending his international career after ten internationals and two goals.

In 1960 Börjesson took over the coaching position at the then second division Trollhättans IF .
