Erik Ortvad
Erik Ortvad (born June 18, 1917 in Frederiksberg near Copenhagen , Denmark ; † February 29, 2008 in Kvänjarp , Sweden ) was a Danish painter and draftsman and has been a member of the CoBrA artists' association since 1948 .
life and work
Erik Ortvad was self-taught and known for colorful, surrealist painting. In addition to his paintings, he published numerous satirical drawings under the pseudonym Enrico . In 1962 Ortvad moved to Kvänjarp, Kronobergs län , Småland , Sweden. He died there in 2008.
“Erik Ortvad, born in 1917, has been part of the group for a little longer. Around 1941/42 his work takes on a very unique, wildly abstract trait. There is always something incomprehensible, surrealistic about the shadowy figures that are occasionally visible in it. "
Ortvad's works can be seen in the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Statens Museum for Kunst in Copenhagen and many other renowned exhibition houses.
