Player career
Erik Rasmussen comes from the youth department of the then first division club Køge BK , where he was appointed to the first team in 1977. Two years later he moved to city rivals Herfølge BK , but came back to his home club after another two years. Rasmussen's indoor soccer career began in the USA in 1984 . The Dane became a top star at the Wichita Wings from Kansas City and received numerous awards and the nickname “the wizard” (in German: the magician) . In the 1987/88 season he got the title for top scorer and most valuable player. After this last successful season Rasmussen came back to Denmark and played a year at BK Frem København and then a year at Brøndby IF . This was followed by a rather short stint at Baltimore Blast, another US indoor football club, and at Helsingør IF in 1992. After that, the striker moved back to his youth club Køge BK and stayed there until 1997. From 1997 to 1999 Rasmussen went back in the USA to play indoor soccer for two more years with the well-known clubs Wichita Wings and Baltimore Blast.
National team
Rasmussen made two appearances for the Danish national soccer team . On October 10, 1990, he was substituted on in the 4-1 win over the Faroe Islands in the 74th minute. His second use was on June 5, 1991 in the 2-1 victory of the Danes over Austria . Here, too, Rasmussen was used as a joker and came on in the 78th minute.
Coaching career
In the 1999/00 season Erik Rasmussen started his coaching career at a small Danish club from Skælskør. In 2000 he took over the coaching position at the two-time Danish champions Næstved BK , which he coached for three years. Since January 2004 he has been the coach of FC Midtjylland, which was founded in 1999 . With the Wolves he reached the Danish Cup final in 2005 (lost 3-0 to Brøndby IF ) and was runner-up in the Superliga in 2006/07 . At the end of the 2007/08 season he left Midtjylland for personal reasons, and in early 2009 he took over Aarhus GF .
