Erik Schweickert

Erik Schweickert (born June 2, 1972 in Pforzheim ) is a German university professor and politician of the FDP . He has been professor for "International Wine Economics" at the Geisenheim University since 2008 and has been a member of the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg since 2016 .

Life

Erik Schweickert grew up in Niefern-Öschelbronn and attended elementary school in Niefern from 1979 to 1983. He obtained his general university entrance qualification in 1992 at the Hilda-Gymnasium in Pforzheim .

From 1994 to 1998 he studied viticulture and beverage technology at the Wiesbaden University of Applied Sciences, department of viticulture and beverage technology in Geisenheim . He graduated as a Dipl.-Ing. (FH) Beverage Technology. It was followed from 1998 to 2000 to study oenology at the University of Giessen , which he as a graduate oenologist graduated. He then did his doctorate at the Institute for Farm Management in Agriculture and Food at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen. His doctoral thesis was "Corporate strategies in the wine industry within the framework of the EU wine market regulation policy ".

In 2004 Erik Schweickert received the "International DLG Prize" for outstanding scientific achievements from the German Agricultural Society (DLG).

After five years in the private sector, Erik Schweickert was appointed professor for "International Wine Industry" at the RheinMain University of Applied Sciences , Geisenheim Campus (since 2013 Geisenheim University ).

Erik Schweickert is married and has two daughters.

On September 27, 2009 Erik Schweickert was elected to the German Bundestag via the FDP state list of Baden-Württemberg (10th place). He received 16.1 percent of the first votes in the constituency of Pforzheim / Enz . After the FDP failed to pass the five percent hurdle in the 2013 federal election , he left the German Bundestag.

Schweickert was consumer protection policy spokesman for the FDP parliamentary group and a member of the committee for “Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection” as well as a deputy member of the committee for “Economy and Technology”. He was also the rapporteur for the FDP parliamentary group on viticulture policy.

In addition to his national political commitment, he has been a member of the local council of his home municipality Niefern-Öschelbronn since 1999 , where he is deputy mayor and since 2004 also a member of the district council of the Enzkreis. Erik Schweickert has been a member of the state board of the FDP Baden-Württemberg since 2004. In addition, he is chairman of the FDP district association in the Northern Black Forest .

In January 2013, Schweickert hit the headlines when, in an interview with Bild am Sonntag, he complained that the cuvée Bundestag sparkling wine, which was sold by the parliamentary bookstore and paid for with German tax money, came from France.

In the state elections in 2016 , he received a mandate as a substitute candidate in the Enz constituency , as Hans-Ulrich Rülke had run in two constituencies.

After the election, Schweickert was elected chairman of the committee for "Economy, Labor and Housing". He is also a member of the "Europe and International" committee. Within the FDP / DVP parliamentary group , he took over the positions of spokesman for European policy, tourism policy, as well as craft and medium-sized businesses.

During the corona pandemic, on March 18, 2020, he chaired the first digital committee meeting in the history of the Baden-Württemberg state parliament and thus made a contribution to the digitization of the working capacity and quorum of the state parliament committees.
