Band history

What began as a one-man project by the singer / songwriter Ambrus Tövisházi (former member of Amorf Ördögök, Crate Soul Brothers) under the name Erik Sumo in 2002 has been the Erik Sumo Band since 2005, a seven-person project. The band's official name is “Erik Sumo Band feat. Erzsi Kiss “, Erzsi Kiss was a permanent guest singer. In 2005 the Erik Sumo Band released their first album My Rocky Mountain in Hungary, which was released shortly afterwards in Germany. In 2009 the album The Trouble Soup was released in Hungary. The Trouble Soup was released in Germany at the end of February 2010 (Le Pop Musik). Stylistic peculiarities of the Erik Sumo Band are three-part harmonies and the singing in a fantasy language not dissimilar to French . The single Disco in My Head made it to 4th place in the Hungarian State Radio Charts in 2009.

On October 16, 2010, the band announced on their website that the singer Veronika Harcsa was terminating her collaboration because she could not continue the project with the same enthusiasm as five years earlier in the initial phase. On May 12, 2011 the band announced the release of the new EP Twilight at the Zoo Vol. 1 on the website .

On February 23, 2012, Ambrus Tövisházi announced on Facebook that the band would end the “Erik Sumo Band” project, but that the members would continue to be active as musicians.

On October 3, 2013, the band united for a single concert at the A38 Ship in Budapest under the name "Erik Sumo Band Classic", in which most of the most recently active and some former members of the band took part.

In November 2013 the best-of-album The Life And Adventures Of Erik Sumo Band (2005-2013) was released , which was published in a digital version as well as in a limited edition of 50 autographed cassettes.

Ambrus Tövisházi is still in charge of the band's website, Facebook page and YouTube channel. He continues to produce remix albums and release media and news about his projects, as well as projects of the former band.
