Erin Brockovich-Ellis (born June 22, 1960 in Lawrence , Kansas , as Erin LE Pattee) is an American paralegal . As an employee of the law firm Masry & Vititoe, she played an important role in a lawsuit against the company Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) to stop the drinking water contamination of the California town of Hinkley . The process was in 1996 with the payment of the record sum of 333 million US dollars included.

Life

Erin Brockovich is one of four children of industrial engineer Frank Pattee (1924–2011) and journalist Betty Jo O'Neal (1923–2008). She earned an associate degree in arts and crafts from Wade College in Dallas, Texas. She then took part in beauty pageants and became Miss Pacific Coast in 1981. She got the surname Brockovich from her short second marriage (1989/1990). She has three children and has lived in California since 1982.

She has no legal training, she started as an office assistant and then took over client recruitment. Together with lawyer Ed Masry , she worked on other similar cases, including against another PG&E factory in Kettleman Hills .

To present the documentary Last call at the oasis by director Jessica Yu, which reports on the global water crisis and in which she plays a leading role, Erin Brockovich visited the International Film Festival in Berlin in 2012 .

As a result of the film's attention, Brockovich-Ellis went on television and hosted Challenge America With Erin Brockovich on ABC and Final Justice for the CBS channel Zone Reality . She wrote several books, including Take It From Me. Life's A Struggle, But You Can Win , which made the New York Times bestseller list.

She founded a consulting company and works as a consultant for law firms in questions of client acquisition and support and conducts research.

In 2000, her story was filmed under the title Erin Brockovich . The main role was played by Julia Roberts , who was awarded an Oscar for this . Brockovich-Ellis made a cameo as a waitress named Julia in the film .
