Erland van Lidth

Erland van Lidth (born June 3, 1953 in Hilversum , North Holland , the Netherlands as Erland van Lidth de Jeude , † September 23, 1987 in Manhattan , New York City ) was an American wrestler , actor of Dutch descent.

Van Lidth belonged to the Dutch noble family Van Lidth De Jeude , he himself carried the title of Jonkheer . He and his family emigrated to the USA in the late 1950s. He studied computer science and electrical engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 1972 to 1976 and graduated with a bachelor's degree . In addition, he did wrestling at competitive sports level and played theater. For the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal , he was nominated as a substitute in the heavyweight division, but was not used. In the same year he was in his weight class East Coast Champion. In an international competition in Tehran , he came third in 1978. Participation in the 1980 Summer Olympics failed due to the boycott by the USA. After graduating from MIT in 1977, for whose wrestling team he was also active, he worked as a computer scientist in Manhattan . Van Lidth had the greatest success as an actor when he was discovered in a New York health club in 1979 and then played the role of terror in the film The Wanderers . However, only three more roles followed, all of them in movies. He also taught English at Manhattan Community College in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

Van Lidth was married and has a son from this relationship. He has two siblings: a brother, Philip van Lidth de Jeude, who works as a baritone and tenor. And a sister, Philine van Lidth de Jeude, who works as a photographer and soprano. He died of heart failure in Manhattan in 1987.
