Sigurd Christian Jag Erland Vogt von Koch (born April 26, 1910 in Stockholm ; † January 30, 2009 there ) was a Swedish composer .

Life

The son of the Swedish composer Sigurd von Koch (1879–1919) studied at the Stockholm Conservatory from 1931 to 1935 and also passed the higher exams for cantor and organist . From 1936 to 1938 he stayed in Germany and France and studied composition with Paul Höffer , conducting with Clemens Krauss and piano with Claudio Arrau . He also took private studies with Tor Mann in Sweden. He worked as a teacher at the Karl Wohlfarts School of Music from 1939 to 1945. He worked for radio from 1943 to 1945 as a sound expert and conductor. In the late 1940s and early 1950s, von Koch wrote the score for films by Ingmar Bergman , Hasse Ekman, and others. From 1953 to 1975 he was a lecturer in harmony at the Conservatory in Stockholm , in 1968 he was appointed professor . Since 1957 he was a member of the Royal Musical Academy . Von Koch has received numerous national and international awards and prizes. He wrote five symphonies , 12 Scandinavian dances, an opera ( Pelle Svanslös ), five ballets and music for wind orchestra.
