The Erlenbach is the 2.5 km long lower course of a river in the western Black Forest that flows into the Kinzig from the right near Biberach in the Ortenaukreis in Baden-Württemberg . Sometimes the Erlenbach and its left and larger upper course, the Harmersbach , are added to each other.

geography

course

The Erlenbach is formed by the confluence of the west-southwest running Harmersbach (16.3 km) and the south-southwest running Nordrach (15.1 km) on the western edge of Zell am Harmersbach . At the right edge of its rather wide valley, it initially continues the direction of the Nordrach, turns at the Zeller Spitzmühle in its valley floor, which is now shared with the Entersbacher Dorfbach, on a somewhat westerly course and then flows after about two and a half kilometers, less than a hundred meters after its crossing the district of Biberach, from the right and east into the Kinzig.

The Erlenbach has a catchment area totaling 104.92 km², to which its two source streams contribute over 98%, of which the Harmersbach 63.573 km² and the Nordrach 39.754 km².

About 0.4 km after it was built, a commercial canal, called Mühlbach , branches off to the right from the Erlenbach in front of a weir just above the Zeller paper mill . This initially runs next to the river, then turns right into the lower valley of the Kinzig, runs through Biberach and then parallel to the Kinzig. It only flows into the Kinzig from the right after a run of over 6 kilometers in the Biberach district near the former quarry at Paulischänzle .
