Erna Sondheim

Erna Sondheim (born April 17, 1904 in Gauting ; † January 9, 2008 in Bad Reichenhall ) was a German foil fencer . She won the Women's World Games in 1930 , the bronze medal at the World Championships in 1932 and took part in the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam. Sondheim fought for the fencing club in Munich.

In 1927 Sondheim was fourth, 1930 second at the German championships in women's floret. At the German Gymnastics Festival in Cologne in 1928, she also took part in the competition with the epee and came second in both the ladies 'floret and the ladies' epee.

At the Olympic Games in Amsterdam in 1928, Sondheim was fourth behind the other two German participants Helene Mayer (1st) and Olga Oelkers (3rd) and the second-placed Brit Muriel Freeman . In 1930 she won the 3rd Women's World Games in Prague before the eventual Olympic champion Ilona Elek . In 1932 the first international championships in the women's floret team were held in Copenhagen . The German team with Roething Lindinger , Tilly Merz , Rotraud von Wachter and Erna Sondheim took 3rd place behind Denmark and Austria.
