Ernest C. Giffen

Ernest C. Giffen (born January 24, 1888 in Newcastle , Ohio , † April 9, 1966 in Wichita , Kansas ) was an American soldier, teacher and politician .

Career

Ernest C. Giffen was born in 1888 to Orange H. Giffen (1857-1918) and his wife Luella (1864-1934), née Scott, in Coshocton County . Nothing is known about his youth.

During World War I , he served as a private in the Student Army Training Corps (SATC).

At some point he moved to South Dakota . Giffen was South Dakota’s Superintendent of Public Instruction from 1929 to 1933 . His term in office was overshadowed by the global economic crisis.

In 1946 he moved to Kansas and settled in Wichita, Sedgwick County . Giffen taught at a school there. Then he worked as a salesman for Encyclopædia Britannica .

Giffen was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Freemasons .
