Life

Nothing is known about Hans Ustrud's youth and school education. There is also no information in the sources about his career outside of politics. One thing is certain: he lived in South Dakota and was a member of the Democratic Party . However, it must be mentioned here that in 1907 a Hans A. Ustrud became Minister of Education of South Dakota and he belonged to the Republican Party . It remains to be seen whether this is the later lieutenant governor or a coincidental identity. If it were the lieutenant governor, he would have changed parties in the meantime.

In 1932 Ustrud was elected lieutenant governor of South Dakota on the side of Thomas Berry . He held this office between 1933 and 1935. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . After his time as Lieutenant Governor, he was no longer politically active. He died on April 20, 1943.
