John T. Grigsby

John Thomas "Jack" Grigsby (born January 5, 1890 in Sioux Falls , Minnehaha County , South Dakota , USA , † January 14, 1977 in Missouri , USA) was an American politician . Between 1929 and 1931 he was lieutenant governor of the state of South Dakota.

Career

John Grigsby was a brother of Sioux K. Grigsby (1873-1968), who would later also become Lieutenant Governor of South Dakota, and of George Barnes Grigsby (1874-1962) a congressional delegate for the Alaska Territory . In contrast to his two brothers, there are hardly any usable sources about him. After studying law and becoming a lawyer, he began working in this profession in Flandreau . Politically, he joined the Democratic Party , to which his brother George belonged, while the other brother Sioux was Republican .

After the death of Lieutenant Governor Clarence E. Coyne , Grigsby was appointed by Governor William J. Bulow to his successor in the second highest state office of South Dakota. He held this office between 1929 and 1931. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . After his time as Lieutenant Governor, he was no longer politically active.
