Hyatt E. Covey

Hyatt E. Covey (born September 1, 1875 in Le Roy , McLean County , Illinois , †  August 3, 1968 in Tripp County , South Dakota ) was an American politician . Between 1927 and 1929 he was lieutenant governor of the state of South Dakota.

Career

Hyatt Covey attended the public schools of his home country and studied at the University of Chicago until 1901 . Then he was high school teacher in Montevideo ( Minnesota ). In 1912 he moved to Tripp County, South Dakota, where he worked as a farmer and rancher. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . Between 1919 and 1926 he was a member of the South Dakota Senate .

In 1926, Covey was elected lieutenant governor of South Dakota. He held this office between 1927 and 1929. He was Deputy to the Democratic Governor William J. Bulow and Chairman of the State Senate. After his time as Lieutenant Governor, he was no longer politically active. He died on August 3, 1968.
