Carl Gunderson

Carl Gunderson (born June 20, 1864 in Vermillion , South Dakota , †  February 16, 1933 in Mitchell , South Dakota) was an American politician and from 1925 to 1927 the eleventh governor of the state of South Dakota.

Career

Carl Gunderson attended the University of South Dakota between 1886 and 1890 . He then studied until 1892 at the Cornell University , the engineering. After completing his studies, he became a land surveyor. Between 1904 and 1911 he worked in this capacity in three Indian reservations in the country. Gunderson was a member of the Republican Party . Between 1893 and 1919 he was a member of the House of Representatives from South Dakota several times, with a few interruptions . From 1921 to 1925 he was Vice Governor Deputy Governor William H. McMaster ; in 1924 he was elected his successor.

Gunderson's two-year term began on January 6, 1925. His government focused on agriculture and education. In 1926 Gunderson ran for re-election, but was defeated by the Democrat William J. Bulow . This ended his governorship at the end of the legislature on January 4, 1927. After being voted out of office, he retired to his farm near Mitchell until his death in February 1933. Carl Gunderson was married to Gertrude Bertlesen, with whom he had four children.
