Howard C. Shober

Howard Clayton Shober (born December 24, 1859 in Tipton , Cedar County , Iowa , † April 29, 1956 in Huron , South Dakota ) was an American politician . Between 1907 and 1911 he was lieutenant governor of the state of South Dakota.

Career

Howard Shober grew up on a farm and worked as a teacher for some time after his own school days. He later moved to South Dakota, where he lived in Highmore and then Huron. He got into the newspaper business and worked there as an editor and publisher. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . He served in the South Dakota Senate in 1905 and 1906 .

In 1906 Shober was elected lieutenant governor of South Dakota on the side of Coe I. Crawford . He held this office after a re-election between 1907 and 1911. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. From 1909 he served under the new governor Robert S. Vessey . In 1916 he was a substitute delegate to the Republican National Convention . Otherwise he was no longer politically active. He died in Huron on April 29, 1956.
