John E. McDougall

John Edmund McDougall (born February 24, 1860 on Prince Edward Island , Canada , † April 13, 1932 in South Dakota ) was an American politician . Between 1905 and 1907 he was lieutenant governor of the state of South Dakota.

Career

John McDougall attended the public schools in his home country and completed an apprenticeship as a carpenter. In the meantime he lived in the states of Maine and Massachusetts . In 1880 he moved to Minneapolis , where he worked in his learned profession. He later moved to Britton , South Dakota. There he initially worked in various areas. Mainly he was a rancher. In some of the sources he is also shown as a lawyer. Politically, he joined the Republican Party . In 1901 and 1902 he was a member of the House of Representatives from South Dakota ; from 1903 to 1904 he was a member of the State Senate .

In 1904, McDougall was elected lieutenant governor of South Dakota alongside Samuel H. Elrod . He held this office between 1905 and 1907. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. After his time as Lieutenant Governor, he was no longer politically active. Among other things, he was a member of the Freemasons .
