Lowell C. Hansen

Lowell C. Hansen (born October 11, 1939 in Sioux Falls , South Dakota ) is an American politician . Between 1979 and 1987 he was lieutenant governor of the state of South Dakota.

Career

Lowell Hansen graduated from high school and then from the University of Nebraska , where he studied business administration. Between 1962 and 1964 he served in the United States Army , where he made it to captain. He later ran the Jack Rabbitt Bus Lines transport company . He also owned a ranch in South Dakota since 1965. Politically, he joined the Republican Party . Between 1974 and 1979 he sat as an MP in the House of Representatives from South Dakota , whose speaker he had been since 1977.

In 1978 Hansen was elected lieutenant governor of South Dakota alongside Bill Janklow . He held this office after a re-election between 1979 and 1987. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . After his time as Lieutenant Governor, he was no longer politically active. He was or is a member of numerous organizations and associations.
