Steve T. Kirby

Steve T. Kirby (born March 26, 1952 in Sioux Falls , South Dakota ) is an American politician . Between 1993 and 1995 he was lieutenant governor of the state of South Dakota.

Career

Steve Kirby studied Political Science at Arizona State University . After a subsequent law degree at the University of South Dakota and his admission to the bar, he began to work in this profession. Until 1992 he also worked for the family-owned Western Surety Company , which was based in the insurance industry. In 1992 he was one of the founders of Bluestem Capital Company .

Politically, he became a member of the Republican Party . After the death of Governor George S. Mickelson , who was killed in a plane crash on April 19, 1993, his lieutenant governor Walter Dale Miller succeeded him in the highest state office in South Dakota. This appointed Steve Kirby as the new lieutenant governor of the state. He held this office between 1993 and 1995. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate .

After serving as Lieutenant Governor, Kirby continued to be politically active. In 2002 he ran unsuccessfully for the office of governor. In 2008 he was considering running for the US Senate . But in the end he decided against this step. He was also in talks for such a candidacy for 2014, which he rejected again. In June 2013, Kirby was appointed to the South Dakota State Investment Council for five years . This body administers over $ 10 billion, including for the state pension fund. Steve Kirby is a member of several organizations and associations, including the American Bar Association .
