Lem Overpeck

Lem Overpeck (born September 18, 1911 in Belle Fourche , Butte County , South Dakota , †  April 10, 2003 in Spearfish , South Dakota) was an American politician . Between 1965 and 1969 he was lieutenant governor of the state of South Dakota.

Career

In 1930, Lem Overpeck graduated from Belle Fourche High School . After a subsequent law degree at the University of South Dakota and his admission as a lawyer in 1936, he began to work in Belle Fourche in this profession. During World War II , he served as a legal officer in the United States Navy Air Corps . He was stationed in Corpus Christi ( Texas ). After the war he continued his legal career. He continued to work as a lawyer and has since become a prosecutor in Butte County.

Politically, he joined the Republican Party and was elected to the South Dakota Senate. He attended three Republican National Conventions as a delegate and served as district chairman for Butte County. In 1964 Overpeck was elected lieutenant governor of South Dakota alongside Nils Boe . He held this office after being re-elected between 1965 and 1969. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. He was also President of the National Association of Lieutenant Governors .

After his time as Lieutenant Governor, Lem Overpeck no longer appeared politically. But he was a member of several organizations and associations and died on April 10, 2003, very old in Spearfish.
