John T. Kean

John Taylor Kean (born March 11, 1857 in Whitewater , Wisconsin , † after 1904) was an American politician . Between 1899 and 1901 he was lieutenant governor of the state of South Dakota .

Career

John Kean attended public schools in Monroe . He then took on temporary work in various areas, for example in a sawmill, in order to finance his further training. After studying law at the University of Wisconsin at Madison and his admission to the bar in 1877, he began to work in this profession. In 1883 he completed his law skills at the National Law School in Washington, DC In between, he was in Lake Mills ( Iowa active) as a lawyer. During his student days in Washington he was also employed by the War Department. From 1884 he lived in Woonsocket in the Dakota Territory , where he practiced as a lawyer. He also worked in the real estate industry. Between 1890 and 1892, Kean was a district judge in Sanborn County .

Politically, he was a member of the Republican Party . In 1898 he was elected lieutenant governor of South Dakota alongside Andrew E. Lee . He held this office between 1899 and 1901. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . In 1902, Kean was elected mayor of Woonsocket. He was a member of the Freemasons and the Society of the Sons of the American Revolution . Since 1884 he was married to Bessie F. Perry, who died in 1903. He died at an unknown time. In 1904, when a biography was written about him, he was still alive.
