Gordon Albert Diedtrich

Gordon Albert Diedtrich (born February 13, 1929 in South Dakota , † August 20, 2017 in Maricopa , Arizona ) was an American professor and politician .

Career

Gordon Albert Diedtrich was born in 1929 to Jacob D. Diedtrich (1898–1992) and his wife Katherine (1900–1973) in South Dakota. According to the 1940 census, he had three sisters, Dora L. (1920–2011), Marie (1921–1988) and Loretta (1924–2010), and a brother named Elmer (1927–2013). His childhood was overshadowed by the global economic crisis. The family lived in 1940 in Hudson ( Edmunds County ).

Diedtrich was Dean for Graduate Studies and Professor emeritus at Northern State University (NSU). He also served as Executive Secretary to the Commissioner of Education.

The Governor of South Dakota Nils Boe appointed him in 1967 to the Superintendent of Public Instruction of South Dakota to the vacancy to fill, by the death of Merrill Franklin Coddington was born. He held the post until 1971. The governor of South Dakota Dennis Daugaard ordered the mourning flag for the death of Diedtrich on August 23, 2017 at the South Dakota State Capitol in Pierre ( Hughes County ).

With his wife Loraine, née Beck, Diedtrich has a daughter named Debra.
