Ernie Parker
Ernest Frederick "Ernie" Parker (born November 5, 1883 in Perth , Australia , † May 2, 1918 in Caëstre , France ) was an Australian cricket and tennis player .
Life
Parker was born in 1883 to George and Maria Ada Parker.
Parker moved to the finals for the first time in 1909, both in singles and doubles, of the Australian Championships . While he lost in singles to Anthony Wilding , he was able to win the title in doubles with JP Keane.
In 1913 he again reached both the single and the double finals. In singles this year Harry Alabaster Parker was able to prevail, and in doubles he also won alongside Alfred Hedeman .
Parker also played cricket for the Western Australia team and took part in 13 first-class cricket matches between 1905 and 1910 .
Parker was drafted during World War I ; he left Australia on May 11, 1917 on board the Ascanius troop carrier . He fell a year later as a member of an artillery unit in northern France. His grave is in the Le Peuplier military cemetery near Caëstre .
