Ernest WB Hess-Lüttich (born April 24, 1949 in Wiesbaden ) is a German specialist in German . He was a full professor for applied linguistics and communication science at the University of Bern .

Life

Ernest Hess-Lüttich was born in Wiesbaden in 1949 as the only son of the diplomat Paul A. Heß and the translator Ingetraud D. Heß-Lüttich. After being in 1968 Bad Godesberg had graduated from high school, he took a master's degree of German , English literature , linguistics and phonetics at the Universities of Bonn, Cologne and London (among others Beda Allemann, Werner Besch, AC Gimson, Helmut Gipper, Werner Habicht, Lothar Hönnighausen, Helmut Koopmann , Helmut Kreuzer , Dieter Mehl, Hugo Moser, Randolph Quirk, Elizabeth Wilkinson), which he completed in 1974 as a Magister Artium . In 1976 he received his doctorate in German at the University of Bonn .

In 1975 he also began studying communication science , media studies , art and theater studies at the universities of Bonn, Cologne, London and Berlin (among others with Ernst H. Gombrich, Dieter Krallmann, Thomas Kuchenbuch, Winfried Lenders, Helmut Richter , Henning Rischbieter, Gerold Monster ); In 1980 he completed his habilitation at the Free University of Berlin .

From 1980 to 1985 he also studied sociology, philosophy, psychology, and pedagogy (among others with Basil Bernstein , Dieter Claessens , Wilhelmine Sayler, Alphons Silbermann , Hans-Georg Soeffner , Ulrich Wienbruch, Gerd Wolandt) at the Universities of Bonn, Cologne, London, Berlin (degree: Dr. paed.).

Scientific activity

In 1985, Hess-Lüttich was appointed professor of German and linguistics at the Free University of Berlin . From 1992 until his retirement in 2014, he was full professor of German studies at the University of Bern .

His main research interests are dialogue and discourse research: social, literary, aesthetic, intermedial, intercultural, intra- / subcultural, institutional, professional, public, political communication.

Together with Achim Eschbach and Jürgen Trabant , he publishes the international semiotic trade journal Kodikas / Code , which is published by Gunter Narr , and is a member of the advisory board of the Zeitschrift für Semiotik . 1993–1999 he was President of the German Society for Semiotics .
