Ernest Lamb, 1st Baron Rochester

Ernest Henry Lamb, 1st Baron Rochester CMG ( September 4, 1876 - January 13, 1955 ) was a British politician who was Paymaster General between 1931 and 1935 .

Life

Lamb was after his school education at Dulwich College and Wycliffe in Gloucestershire run a business in the logistics industry and CEO of Foster's Parcels and Goods Express Ltd . He began his political engagement in local politics as a member of the City Council of London , of which he was a member until 1931. He was also Deputy Alderman of the Candlewick Ward and Lieutenant of the City of London .

On January 12, 1906 he was the first member of the House of Commons and represented the constituency of Rochester until December 14, 1918 . Lamb, the 1907 magistrate (justice of the peace) of Surrey was, was on November 9, 1907 Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George (CMG).

While serving on the London City Council, he temporarily chaired the Police Committee, the School Committee and the Welfare Committee. He was a member of the Port of London Authority , which for the management of the London harbor competent administrative authority, and the Central Water Advisory Council of the Ministry of Housing and Local Government.

By a letters patent dated January 23, 1931 Lamb was raised to the hereditary nobility as 1st Baron Rochester, of Rochester in the County of Kent and was henceforth a member of the House of Lords .

On August 25, 1931 he was appointed by Prime Minister Ramsay MacDonald as Paymaster General (Paymaster General) in the National Government and was a member of this until June 7, 1935. At the same time he was spokesman for the Ministry of Labor in the House of Lords.

His marriage to Rosa Dorothea Hurst on December 31, 1913 resulted in seven children, including Foster Charles Lowry Lamb , who succeeded him as 2nd Baron Rochester after his death.
