Ernest Maftei

Ernest Maftei (born March 6, 1920 in Prăjeşti , Bacău district , † October 19, 2006 in Bucharest ) was a Romanian actor , epigrammist and student of the legionary movement .

After attending school in Bacau , where he founded the magazine Liliacul with four classmates , for which he wrote poetry, he led the Frățiile de Cruce (the youth organization of the legionary movement ) at secondary school .

In 1938, during the reign of Armand Călinescu , he was interned for five months in a camp near Vaslui . In Iași he studied from 1941 to 1945 at the Conservatory of Music and the drama school.

After another period of political imprisonment in Galați , Jilava and Văcăreşti , he managed to gain a foothold as an actor.

Maftei starred in over 200 films; his son Gheorghe works as a visual artist.
