Ernest N. Harmon

Ernest Nason Harmon CB (born February 26, 1894 in Lowell (Massachusetts) , † November 13, 1979 in White River Junction , Vermont ) was an American officer.

Harmon took part in the 1924 Summer Olympics in modern pentathlon . Originally a cavalry officer , Harmon served in North Africa during World War II , where he also took part in the Battle of the Kasserin Pass , and in Europe, where he liberated Pilsen . After the war he was first in command of the United States Constabulary in Germany. In 1947 he commanded the Third United States Army .

Ernest Harmon achieved the rank of major general . The Ernest Harmon Air Force Base in Stephenville (Newfoundland) in Canada is named after him.
