Schultz in Toulouse Dress (1962)

Ernest Michel Schultz (born January 29, 1931 in Dalhunden , † September 19, 2013 in Lyon ) was a French football player .

Club career

The physically robust striker with a hard shot played for Olympique Lyon from 1952 , first in the second division and from 1954 in the first division . The club ended up only in the middle of the table until 1957, but "Ernie" Schultz came early into the focus of the national team selection committee of the football association (see below) . In the 1955/56 season he appeared for the first time on a top spot in the scorer list (rank 11 with 15 goals of the season) and reached the semi-finals of the Cup with Lyon .

In 1957 Ernest Schultz moved to the newly crowned cup winner Toulouse FC , and in his first season he finished third among the league goalscorer behind Fontaine from champions Stade Reims and De Vlaeminck from Lille with 21 goals . Also in 1960 (rank 10, 17 hits) and 1962 (rank 14 with 13 hits) he was well placed in this list, and in 1961 he wore the blue national jersey for the first time. His teammates at TFC could not convert Schultz 'regular goals into top places in the table or cup successes; the club belonged only in 1959/60 as fifth in the final table to the extended top of Division 1 and also failed in the national cup competition year after year prematurely. After Toulouse was seventh in the league again in the 1962/63 season, the Alsatian ended his engagement. From 1964 he still played in the second-rate US Boulogne , from January 1967 in the role of player-coach .
