Ernest Valko

Ernest Valko (born August 10, 1953 in Spišská Nová Ves , † November 8, 2010 in Limbach , Slovakia ) was a Slovak lawyer , politician and the only President of the Czechoslovak Federal Constitutional Court. He was found murdered on November 8, 2010.

In 1977 he graduated from the Faculty of Law at the Comenius University in Bratislava and passed the Rigorosum in 1979. As a lawyer, he specialized in business, labor, civil, criminal and land law. Since January 1990 he was a member of the Czechoslovak Federal Assembly and deputy chairman of the House of Representatives. He was u. a. involved in changes to labor law, commercial law, the Introductory Act to the Constitutional Treaty, the Charter of Fundamental Rights, the Constitutional Referendum Act and the Commercial Code. A dissertation in 2004 received an excellent rating. From January 31, 1992 to December 31, 1992 he was the sole President of the Constitutional Court of the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic.

From 1993 he worked as a lawyer and held positions on committees of various companies. He was involved in several disputes such as that of the poet Ľubomír Feldek with the Minister of Culture in the Mečiar Dušan Slobodník government , in a dispute between the gas company SPP and the Bank Union banka in the case of the so-called Duckýs bills of exchange or a civil law dispute between the Slovak politicians Ivan Mikloš and Robert Fico . In the parliamentary elections in 2006 , he ran unsuccessfully for the National Council of the Slovak Republic .

On the evening of November 8, 2010, he was found shot dead in his house in Limbach near Bratislava. The investigation continues to this day (2014). No perpetrator has yet been charged.
