Ernest Warburton

Ernest Warburton (born June 10, 1937 in Irlam , † August 7, 2001 in London ) was a British musicologist .

Life

Warburton joined the BBC in Manchester in 1967 , where he worked closely with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra . In 1973 he appointed Raymond Leppard as chief conductor of the orchestra. For radio, Warburton produced many rarely performed operas, including Giacomo Puccini's Le Villi , Carl Nielsen Maskarade , Richard Wagner's Die Feen and Peace by Richard Strauss . In 1977 he became the director of the BBC Radio music program in London , and in 1986 he moved to the BBC World Service . He retired in 1995.

His lifelong commitment to the work of Johann Christian Bach remains the greatest merit; he wrote most of the scores for the 48-volume complete edition he published by hand.
