Ernesto Alvarez Alvarez SDB (born May 2, 1925 in Riobamba , Ecuador , † February 13, 1991 ) was an Ecuadorian bishop .

Life

Ernesto Alvarez joined the Salesians of Don Bosco and was ordained a priest on June 29, 1953 .

Pope Paul VI appointed him on December 1, 1967 titular bishop of Megalopolis in Proconsulari and auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Guayaquil . The episcopal ordination donated him on January 14, 1968 Manuel de Jesús Serrano Abad , Archbishop of Cuenca . Co- consecrators were Cándido Rada Senosiáin , Bishop of Guaranda , and Leonidas Eduardo Proaño Villalba , Bishop of Riobamba . On May 1, 1970, Paul VI appointed Alvarez titular Archbishop of Clypia and Coadjutor Archbishop of Cuenca. With the death of Manuel de Jesús Serrano Abad on April 21, 1971, he succeeded him.

On July 21, 1980, Alvarez resigned his title to become auxiliary bishop again in Guayaquil. Pope John Paul II relieved him of this office on October 31, 1984. Then Ernesto Alvarez withdrew before he died in February 1991.
