Manuel de Jesús Serrano Abad (born December 25, 1898 in Cuenca , Ecuador ; † April 21, 1971 ibid) was Archbishop of Cuenca .

Life

Manuel de Jesús Serrano Abad was ordained a priest on December 22, 1922 .

Pope Pius XII appointed him on August 18, 1954 titular bishop of Arsinoë in Arcadia and appointed him auxiliary bishop in Cuenca. He was ordained episcopal on November 13th of the same year by Carlos María Cardinal de la Torre , Archbishop of Quito . Co- consecrators were Bernardino Echeverría Ruiz , Bishop of Ambato , and Domenico Comin , Vicar Apostolic of Méndez . On November 16, 1956, he was appointed Bishop of Cuenca.

Pius XII. elevated the diocese of Cuenca with the Apostolic Constitution Quasi mater to the archbishopric on April 9, 1957, with which Serrano became the first archbishop of Cuenca. In the archbishopric he pursued a rather conservative policy in favor of the upper class. He attended the Second Vatican Council from 1962 to 1965 and died in April 1971.
