The Archdiocese of Quito ( Latin Archidioecesis Quitensis , Spanish Arquidiócesis de Quito ) is an archdiocese of the Roman Catholic Church based in Quito , Ecuador .

history

On January 8, 1546, the Diocese of Quito ( Latin Dioecesis Quitensis ) from areas of the Diocese of Lima by Pope Paul III. founded; the first bishop was García Díaz Arias . Pope Pius IX elevated the diocese to an archdiocese on January 13, 1848.
