David Israel de la Torre Altamirano SSCC (born November 8, 1972 in Quito ) is an Ecuadorian religious and Roman Catholic auxiliary bishop in Quito .

Life

David Israel De la Torre Altamirano joined the congregation of the Arnstein Fathers in 1990 and made his profession on March 27, 1995 . He studied first at the Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador and later at the Center Sèvres and at the Institut Catholique de Paris , where he obtained a licentiate in theology. On August 3, 2001, he received the sacrament of ordination through the Archbishop of Quito, Antonio Cardinal González Zumárraga .

From 2003 to 2009 he headed the University Pastoral Center in Quito. Since 2003 he has taught as a professor at the School of Theology of the Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador, which he took over in 2007. From 2008 until his appointment as bishop he was pastor of the parish Sacred Hearts and San Carlos in Quito. In his religious community he was an economist from 2004 to 2007 and then superior of the Ecuadorian Vice Province until 2017 . He also coordinated the initial formation of his order in Latin America. During Pope Francis ' pastoral visit to Ecuador in July 2015, he was press spokesman for the Ecuadorian Bishops' Conference .

On October 18, 2019, Pope Francis appointed him titular bishop of Bagai and auxiliary bishop in Quito. The Archbishop of Quito, Alfredo Espinoza Mateus SDB , donated him episcopal ordination on December 7th of the same year . Co- consecrators were the Apostolic Nuncio in Ecuador, Archbishop Andrés Carrascosa Coso , and Vincente Danilo Echeverría Verdesoto , Auxiliary Bishop in Quito.
