Alfredo José Espinoza Mateus SDB (born April 22, 1958 in Guayaquil ) is an Ecuadorian religious and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Quito .

Life

Alfredo Espinoza Mateus joined the order of the Salesians of Don Bosco and was ordained a priest on December 17, 1988 . He then worked as the administrator of several Salesian schools in Guayaquil, Riobamba and Manta . In 2008 he was the delegate of the Ecuadorian Salesians for their 26th General Assembly.

Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Loja on December 20, 2013 . The Apostolic Nuncio in Ecuador, Archbishop Giacomo Guido Ottonello , donated him episcopal ordination on January 18 of the following year . Co- consecrators were the former bishop of Machala , Luis Antonio Sánchez Armijos SDB, and the bishop of Riobamba , Julio Parrilla Díaz .

Pope Francis appointed him Archbishop of Quito on April 5, 2019. The inauguration took place on May 2 of the same year.
