The Roman Catholic Diocese of Loja ( lat. : Dioecesis Loiana , span. : Diócesis de Loja ) is in Ecuador located Roman Catholic diocese , based in Loja .

history

The diocese Loja was on December 29, 1862 by Pope Pius IX. Erected from cession of territory by the diocese of Cuenca . It was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Cuenca as a suffragan . On July 26, 1954, the Diocese of Loja gave up parts of its territory to establish the Territorial Prelature El Oro .
