The Roman Catholic Diocese of Machala ( lat. : Dioecesis Machalensis , span. : Diócesis de Machala ) is in Ecuador located Roman Catholic diocese , based in Machala . It includes the province of El Oro .
history
Pope Pius XII founded the territorial prelature El Oro on July 26, 1954 from ceding territories of the dioceses of Guayaquil and Loja and was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Santiago de Cuba as a suffragan diocese.
With the Apostolic Constitution Venerabilis Fratris it became part of the ecclesiastical province of the Archdiocese of Quito on September 11, 1961 . On January 31, 1969, it was raised to a diocese with the Apostolic Constitution Quem admodum and took its current name.
